MARINA, MARITAS Sign Agreement to Conduct Safety Training for Boat Captains
The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) recently signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the Maritime Technological and Allied Services Inc. (MARITAS) for the latter to conduct a one day basic safety training for boat captains and diesel mechanics for ships 15 GT and below.
Signed by MARINA Administrator Angelo Verdan, the MoA details MARITAS to conduct a series of safety training to 24 Boat Captains and Marine Diesel Mechanics per batch or a much bigger number of trainees on instances where training will be conducted outside of the MARITAS premises.
According to MARITAS president Celso M. De Guzman, the developed project was aimed to aid the MARINA in implementing safe, adequate and efficient shipment of commodities and people in domestic waters.
According to De Guzman, the project was a joint initiative between the two parties. "MARITAS deemed it a social responsibility to be able to help the government through MARINA in enforcing and enforcing these rules and regulations it is mandated to oversee," he added. …
