Club Hits Finals at Volleyball Festival

The Kane County Juniors Volleyball Club 18 Gold Team makes history by being the first team from Illinois to get to the championship final of the Volleyball Festival in Phoenix.

Megan Odenthal of Geneva High School had the honor of being named Renaissance Girl. She was introduced at the opening ceremonies, which were held at Chase Field (the Arizona Diamondbacks stadium) to the 6,000 athletes, 2,000 coaches and 10,000 fans in attendance.

Her accomplishments in her young life beyond the volleyball court made her a perfect selection for Renaissance Girl.

After the opening ceremonies, the team met with their sister club that was assigned to them by the festival. The sister club was from American Samoa. The teams and coaches had lunch together and an immediate bond was formed. The Samoans' club name was Tausala 18's. Kane County had the best fan section in the entire tournament as the Tausala team and their families had a chant or a cheer for everything Kane County did on the court.

In the semifinal match, the Tausala team was there in force for Kane County. After Kane County won the match, the Samoans asked the team to meet in the hall as they had a surprise. The sister team broke into a cheer and then did a Samoan dance for the Kane County team.
