Aquino, Bishops to Meet Again on Family Planning
MANILA, Philippines - President Aquino will try to meet with the Catholic bishops after his visit to Japan and seek a "common ground" on the thorny issue of family planning, a Palace official said Sunday.Secretary Herminio Coloma of the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) said the President would find a "convenient time" for another dialogue with the religious leaders as part of a government initiative to get the sentiments of affected sectors on the matter.The looming dialogue with the prelates came after they reportedly plan to seek opinions of lay people who are experts on economics, the legal, and medical aspects on reproductive health. The Catholic bishops have opposed the President's support for the right to contraception.Asked about the date of next round of talks with the bishops, the President said preliminary talks with the religious leaders on family planning issue would be held before the formal dialogue."We have yet to schedule the formal dialogues.
