AMISERABLE start to 2011 for billionaire Mercedes Benz heir Mick Flick, who had planned to enjoy a peaceful ski holiday with his family in Gstaad, his favourite Swiss resort.
He woke up on New Year's Day to discover one of the two [pounds sterling]10 million chalets his family owns in the village engulfed in flames.
Chalet Aquilla was being used by Mick's son Alexander and daughter- in-law Pia, and is next door to the chalet where Mick is staying.
The conflagration was watched in awe by hundreds of sleepy-eyed post-New Year revellers, including Sir Roger Moore, Michael Winner and the philanthropist Dame Vivien Duffield.
The smoke from the blaze rose over the ski slopes and, according to one skier: 'We could barely breathe at one point because of it.'
Fortunately, all five occupants were able to escape before the building was engulfed by flames. The fire completed destroyed the chalet and with it went at least part of Mick's fabulous art collection worth many millions.
