Criminal Justice, Nursing Graduates Receive Recognition; Individual Students Honored for Special Achievement
St. Johns River State College recently recognized newly minted graduates from its nursing and criminal justice programs.
A pinning ceremony was held at the Orange Park campus to honor 14 Associate in Science in Nursing students, 10 of whom are from Clay County. They are Bobbi Barreira, Melanie Cross-Hartley, Dawn Fogle, Claire Jackson, Jessica Jones, Allison Loomis, Grace Mays, Ian Rothstein, Mary Shirai and Stacy Symonds.
The pinning ceremony symbolized the "rite of passage into the nursing profession," said Anna Lebesch, the college's vice president for workforce development.
In addition to the ceremony, nursing students were recognized for special achievement throughout their two-year program. Clay County resident Claire Jackson received the Florence Nightingale award.
The college's nursing program, which is offered at the Orange Park and Palatka campuses, also includes health programs such as respiratory care, nursing assistant, health information management and radiologic technology. Also, the college's criminal justice academy held a ceremony to present certificates to graduates of the law enforcement basic recruit and corrections basic recruit programs.
