Pizza Chain's Ad Was Overcooked; Unhappy Job-Seeker Complained to Watchdog

A PIZZA delivery chain faced a probe for false advertising when it tried to recruit drivers, it has been revealed.

The Advertising Standards Agency (ASA) was approached by a disgruntled job seeker about an advert for delivery people for the Domino's Pizza, at Manor Walks Shopping Centre in Cramlington, Northumberland. The shop was hoping to take on drivers but the ASA was told the advert, ran in a local newspaper on January 13, advertised misleading details for its wages and hours.

It claimed on target earnings (OTE) were pounds 8 to pounds 9 per hour and that the hours would be flexible to suit.

In reality, the company was offering the minimum wage plus tips. The ASA has said, however, this cannot be included as earnings as they are not guaranteed and not a taxable income.

The company's "flexible" working meant the hours would suit the company - not the new recruit.

Applicants were quick to contact the ASA and the company, which bills itself as the world's leading pizza delivery company, has had to amend the advert.

Domino's Pizza employs more than 20,000 people across its 660 UK stores.

A Domino's Pizza spokeswoman said the situation had been resolved and the company was no longer running the advert.
