European Investment Bank : Eib External Action Gets Funding Boost
The new mandate of the European Investment Bank (EIB) on lending to third countries provides for additional resources to tackle climate change and to support the EU's Southern and Eastern neighbours. The final adoption of the new mandate is now effective after the European Parliament adopted, on 13 October, the resolution on the guarantees of these loans - on the basis of an EU budgetary guarantee - and the decision of the Council on 19 July. The new mandate - which is a mid-term revision of the 2007-2013 mandate - is expected to enter into force on 1 November 2011.
