Henrietta M. "Penny" Hargreaves Henrietta M. "Penny" Hargreaves, 72, of Stonington Conn., beloved wife of 52 years to William "Bill" Hargreaves, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 13, 2011, at The Carriage House in Westerly, R.I. Born in Norwich, Conn., she was the daughter of the late Henry and Irene Rose (Kornacki) Marciniak and lived in Stonington for the past 13 years. Penny attended the Norwich Free Academy as a member of the National Honor Society. She was also a member of the Norwich Symphony Orchestra and NFA Orchestra, where she played violin. She went on to the Willimantic State Teachers College (ECSU) and earned an associate degree in education and then served as a guidance counselor at Vernon Middle School for several years. Penny enjoyed gourmet cooking and studied through an extensive collection of cookbooks. As a result, she then went into gourmet retail and managed stores in Hanover, Mass., Dallas, Texas, Oakbrook, Ill., and Wheaton, Ill. She also enjoyed reading historical fiction novels and walking in the Stonington Borough, where she met and befriended multitudes of people. Penny was a member of the Calvary Episcopal Church and participated in the weekly Bible Study group. She also loved music - especially, the Beatles, Barbara Streisand and Billy Joel. All this in addition to being a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
