A Few of My Favourite Things; Alex Jones

Byline: PAULA KERR

The TV presenter, 34, hosts BBC1's The One Show with Matt Baker and is on this year's Strictly Come Dancing. She lives in West London.

PRIZED POSSESSION

FOR my 18th birthday my parents gave me a Rolex watch. It has a silver strap and it's very precious to me.

I rarely take it off, but I recently left it at The One Show studios by mistake. I woke up in the morning with a sinking feeling in my stomach that I'd lost it.

Luckily, when I checked, it was being kept safe for me. It's my favourite item of jewellery. I don't think I'll ever wear another watch.

SWEET TREATS

I AM a little obsessed with Haribo sweets. I eat a lot of them and I always have them in my handbag. I like the hearts and rings best. I need to think about cutting back, but I tell myself they give me energy for my Strictly dance rehearsals. I'm not a big fan of chocolate. If I'm buying confectionary, it'll usually be something I can chew.

CHICK FLICK

IF I have an evening to myself I'll spend it on the sofa watching a soppy movie -- it has to be something that will wash over me and make me smile.

The DVD I come back to time after time is Love Actually, with Hugh Grant, Martine McCutcheon and the brilliant Bill Nighy. It always makes me laugh.

It seems to be on TV every Christmas, when I'll make a point of seeing it. It's warm and familiar and it puts me in the mood for a sherry or two.

LIFE LESSON

MY PARENTS are really grounded and they've taught me to work hard and keep smiling. Because of them, I've always tried to maintain a positive outlook on life. My mother, who works in a bank, always says an outfit isn't complete without a smile.

I was over the moon when I got my job on The One Show. I can't remember a time when I've smiled more. It meant a move to London, a new haircut and leaving lots of friends behind in Wales, but I thought that if it didn't work out, I could always go back. I like to think I'm the sort of girl whose cup is always half full.

TEEN IDOL

MANY years ago, I had a crush on Jason Donovan. My girlfriends and I were devoted to him, as Scott Robinson, in the TV series Neighbours and had his poster on our walls.

We cried buckets when Scott married Kylie Minogue's character, Charlene (pictured left).

Imagine what it was like meeting him on Strictly! It was definitely unnerving coming face to face with my first crush, but he's lovely and a very sweet person to share the Strictly experience with. I'd have been devastated if he wasn't as I'd imagined.

FOOTWEAR

STILL own a pair of brown tan cowboy boots that I bought in Mexico when I was 17. I was on a school trip, which I didn't enjoy because I was rather careless with my use of sun lotion and got very badly burned. …
