This book is the result of a fellowship Michael Piggott undertook to identify records of prime ministers in the Australian National University archives. Together with co-author and university archivist Maggie Shapley, Piggott aims to promote and publicise use of the archives at the university that relate to Australian prime ministers.
There is a strong connection between the university and Australian prime ministers. The book describes these relationships as well as the archives generated from these connections. These include archival records created by prime ministers such as personal papers, and records about prime ministers, including photographs of events. The book does far more than list the archival records. It includes stories of events around the archives and snippets of history that capture the attention of the reader. As an example, one of my favourite records reproduced in this volume would have to be the handwritten letter by a young Kevin Rudd in 1975 requesting information on enrolment procedures. …
