Anglican Publications Honored: Design and Content Both Cited in Awards

Winnipeg

After being recognized in April as one of the top national church newspapers in North America, the Anglican Journal has picked up an additional five awards from the Canadian Church Press.

And MinistryMatters, the Anglican Church of Canada's magazine for people involved in ministry, took home a first place award for general excellence in its first year of being entered in the CCP awards. The awards were announced in Winnipeg at the organization's annual meeting, May 3-5.

Both the Anglican Journal and MinistryMatters are edited by Vianney (Sam) Carriere.

The Anglican Journal picked up a total of six awards at the Associated Church Press (ACP) convention in Minneapolis, Minn., April 22-25.

The newspaper received an award of merit, or second prize, in the category of national or international newspaper from the ACP.

The Journal was also awarded two honourable mentions for its letters to the editor and a news story written by former staff writer Kathy Blair about the Diocese of Cariboo's financial troubles.

ACP has 175 member publications websites. It represents a combined circulation of more than 28 million readers.

The Canadian Church Press recognized the Journal in both writing and design categories. A special section about the church's history with residential schools, Sins of the Fathers, won Tony Sutton, president of News Design Associates Inc.
