Striving for a Healthier and Happier Year Ahead; It,COs the Beginning of a New Year and for Many It Means a New Start, Which Includes Setting Goals to Achieve in the New Year. KATE DODDspeaks to Two Toowoomba Residents about Their New year,COs Resolutions and How They Are Going to Keep Them

NEW YearCOs resolutions.

We all make them and we all break them.

But for David Kynaston and Kylie Ellis, New YearCOs resolutions are just what they need for a fresh new start in life.

David Kynaston is an overweight 43-year-old who just wants to feel a bit better. Kylie Ellis is a 25-year-old who has a new boyfriend and a new job and is ready to make a change.

Mr Kynaston has never made a new yearCOs resolution before and is hoping it is exactly what he needs to get healthy in 2013.

C[pounds sterling]ICOve had goals before but nothing like this,C[yen] he said.

C[pounds sterling]ICOve struggled to lose weight in the past but ICOm going to approach it from this way and hopefully ICOll have a little bit more luck.C[yen]

He said he didnCOt have any specific goals in mind.

C[pounds sterling]ICOm just going to take it one day at a time,C[yen] he said.

C[pounds sterling]I used to be a footy player but then my body changed and ICOm finding that I canCOt lose weight as easily as I used to.

C[pounds sterling]ItCOs a whole new ball game and I just canCOt get on the bike.C[yen]

Mr Kynaston said the weight issue was taking a toll on his mental health because he couldnCOt lose the weight like he used to. But heCOs confident he can do it this time.

C[pounds sterling]ICOm quite motivated now. ICOve never been huge, but itCOs the mindset I have to change.C[yen]

He admitted heCOs more motivated this time and has a plan of attack including a goal-setting routine based on healthier decisions.

C[pounds sterling]ICOve just got to keep thinking about how life used to be,C[yen] he said.

C[pounds sterling]I think the first month will be the hardest, but once I get past that itCOll get easier.

C[pounds sterling]I think self-esteem will come from small successes so ICOve just got to concentrate and build on those small successes.C[yen]

To lose the weight, Mr Kynaston said he planned to take his push bike for rides and go bush walking Co but with a camera in tow.

C[pounds sterling]I do like to ride, as I can take more in as I go from one place to the next,C[yen] he said.

C[pounds sterling]Riding a bike in Toowoomba can be quite challenging with all its hills.

C[pounds sterling]I also go hammock camping in the hills about Toowoomba. I have a hiking buddy from Ipswich who comes out regularly with me.

C[pounds sterling]So I guess wanting to continue to do things like this is my motivation.C[yen]

But it wonCOt be easy, living in a house with teenage children and a family who will continue to eat fast food like Kentucky Fried Chicken.

Kylie Ellis started her new yearCOs resolution long before the new year.

C[pounds sterling]I actually started about two weeks ago,C[yen] she said.

C[pounds sterling]ICOve just been eating better and I started exercising.
