Don't Punish the Lawful Gun Owners
Don't punish the lawful gun owners
I am writing in regard to the comments in a Fence Post article on Jan. 9, "Time is now for change in gun laws," by Harry Trumfio.
Time for a change in gun laws? Which one of the many hundreds would you want changed? Many people think changing the gun laws will solve all the problems, but it will not. They think getting rid of all the guns (weapons) will solve all their problems. It will remove the weapons from legitimate owners, but it will not stop anyone who desires to obtain a weapon through the black market or outright theft. These people will never register a firearm or care about your gun laws. Get off the bandwagon and become real.
Read the letter on the same day in Fence Post by Randy Rossi. I believe he hit the nail on the head. There is almost nothing on TV or in movie theaters that does not have constant violence with weapons all day long, or people in a state of drug effects. After seeing these programs all day, what else do our youth have to look up to. Get rid of the violence shown on the screens, or show it between midnight and 6 a.m., and perhaps then we can see a change in the attitude of the people.
But of course that will never happen, and that leaves legitimate firearms owners to protect themselves as no one else is available to. Our law enforcement is kept busy chasing drug dealers and drunken drivers -- no time left to protect ordinary citizens.
Yes, it is terrible to see our youths killed by guns, but how many of those who commit the crime are also killed in sentencing? Very few. They live out their lives in a prison at taxpayers' cost.
