'SAFE 2013' Poll Drive Launched
SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union - A total of 205 bikers took part in the "bike for peaceful election" event held in separate venues in La Union in order to support the drive to ensure a secure and fair elections (SAFE 2013) in May.
Representatives of various Christian religious organizations, local communities, civil society groups, student sectors, Commission on Elections officials and the police conducted the ecumenical liturgy for peace recently at Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University, La Union Campus (DMMMSU- MLUC) and bike for peace, which kicked off at DMMMSU- South La Union (DMMMSU-SLUC) in Agoo town.
Police Chief Supt. Ricardo C. Marquez, Police Regional Office-1 director, emphasized the significance of the support coming from various religious and civil society groups to attain a safe polls.
"We are a government of laws, and not of men and we have our laws written on paper for all to see and abide by, thus they cannot be changed, redefined, or looked at differently by any man at his whim, that is why, clearly, the law's intention is to defeat political killings, and any other acts of lawless violence and obstructions of the right to suffrage." Marquez pointed out.
