Cuppers Face Tougher Test Next
Members of the Cebuana Lhuillier-Philippine Davis Cup celebrated its first round triumph against Syria in their Asia Oceania Zone Group II tie with no frills over the weekend as they have to prepare really hard for thier next important battle.
Immediately after wrapping up their 3-2 win over the Syrians in the rain-delayed tie at the Plantation Bay Resort and Spa in Lapu Lapu City, PH non-playing team captain Roland Kraut said they will have to train as religious as they can to reach their best form in time for their semifinal duel with the talented Thailand squad.
"Thailand is a very strong team so we have to be ready for them," said Kraut. "All of them must be ready to play."
Fil-Am Treat Huey, who keyed the team's series-clinching win in the doubles, hurriedly left for France last night to compete in an ATP tournament as part of his preparation.
"Two months is a short preparation, but tuluy-tuloy naman ang pagsali ng tournaments nina Treat and Ruben (Gonzales). As for the locals, meron namang upcoming tournament in March," Kraut said.
While Kraut believes they have a deeper bench over the Thai squad, he can't simply dismiss the idea that Thailand is very dangerous.
The Thais, for one, will be bannered by veteran Danai Udomchoke - the 2006 Doha Asian Games champion.
Also a many-time SEA Games winner, Udomchoke is currently ranked No.l159 in the world.…
