Amazon Ups the Ante in Digital Music War against Market Leader iTunes


MANILA, Philippines - No doubt, Digital music as a social phenomenon has gone global. Various studies made over the years attest to this with analysts noting that the market has been consistently increasing each year.

At the forefront of it all is undisputed market leader iTunes, which, as of this writing, is still the industry benchmark worldwide. Of course, it should be said that its success isn't something hard to fathom as the popularity of Apple devices such as the iPod, the iPhone and, of course, the iPad makes it more than obvious.

But exclusivity has its price. With iTunes purchased music still only compatible with iOS supported devices, challengers are scrambling for solutions that would enable them to snag a bigger share of the pie by offering an alternative that allows for digital music to be played unhampered by platform limitations.

Just recently, Amazon.com has launched Amazon AutoRip -- a service that, in conjunction with Amazon's Cloud Player, now gives music buyers the option to play their Amazon purchased songs via a huge array of internet-linked devices.

Indeed, where iTunes brandish their limitation as a cliquish badge of sorts, AutoRip proudly goes the other way, even as it flaunts support on almost anything: Android devices, Mac/PC, iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, Apple TV, iPhone, iPod Touch, Kindle Fire -- and there are also planned support for Roku and Sonos.
