Young Barley Grass and the Immune System


When I was a kid I remember how hearing the phrase eat it - its good for you, made me instantly dislike whatever was being forced on me. Even if it was something that didnt taste bad at all, my mind had already set itself against the poor hapless food (which was most likely a vegetable) because it was good for me, I assumed that it probably tasted terrible! Well thank goodness Ive grown up a lot since then and I dont only put up with things that are good for me, Ive learned to actually enjoy them, to the point where if theyre not there, I look for them. I remember the first day I tried wheatgrass. I was out shopping and I could feel that I was coming down with something. I already had a cold but you know when you start feeling lethargic and your head and eyes begin to hurt, you just want to go home and get in bed and stay there and not move for the next couple of days. I passed by the booth selling wheatgrass at about P80 a shot and it was a deep neon green. I had read how it was very helpful for strengthening the immune system so I figured no matter how bad the taste was I could manage it if it would help. I downed the shot in one go. The strange taste didnt last long and neither did the bug that had hit me - in less than an hour I was feeling perfectly perky and in no need of rest. From that moment on, I was faithful to wheatgrass - the minute I felt a bit low I would drink my little glassful and be healthy and capable again in no time. Then a year or so ago, a close friend told me about how she started taking this product called young barley grass. She told me about how her sister and her brother-in-law who were both doctors had started taking it and one month after they started, they had both lowered their cholesterol and blood pressure without changing anything else in their diet. That sounded pretty amazing especially considering my friend isnt a pushover when it comes to supplements or quick-fix methods, she believes in exercise and good eating habits just like I do. So I bought a box of 30 sachets to try and it worked amazingly well. This time though it was different from the wheatgrass because instead of having to go out and find someone selling it, my family and I would just pop a sachet out of the box, and mix the powder into homemade or store-bought juice right at home. All of us noticed immediately how it would help us avoid becoming sick even if we had reached the point of being run-down and starting to feel bad and it also cut the recuperation time if we did come down with something. Once, I was in Hong Kong for a week visiting my best friend and we had both been waking up early, shopping all day, sleeping late and getting cold and wet in the rain because it was early March. One night, we both felt like we had overdone it and she asked her son to mix us up a couple of glasses of barley. We didnt even want to wait to get it with juice so we drank it mixed into water and it was surprisingly bearable.
