Harper's Bought into Floyd's System

McDill, Kent, Daily Herald (Arlington Heights, IL)

Byline: Kent McDill Daily Herald Sports Writer

Ron Harper played 41 minutes Friday, and plans to play as long as coach Floyd wants him to tonight.

Harper is a huge key to the Bulls' chances for any success or progress this season. As the most visible member of the championship teams left, Harper is the guy the young players will look to for encouragement and example.

Floyd is effusive in his appreciation of Harper, saying the veteran guard has bought into his program.

"I am here, and I am going to be here," Harper said. "What he wants to do, the head player must buy into it. If I say no to what he wants to do, what are these young guys going to do?

"They will say, 'Ron ain't buying' " he said. "I'm trying to tell the kids this is what he wants and this is what we have to do to be good. If it can help us win, I'm buying into it."

Welcome home: Brent Barry returns to the Sports Arena tonight where he played his first season and a half in the NBA.

Even though he personally could not drag the Clippers out of the league's basement, he expects to get a pleasant homecoming from the crowd.
