Special Olympics Gets a Boost from Meadow Club Corporations

Companies duke it out every day in the business world but recently some Northwest Suburban firms went up against each other in a different venue - a sports arena.
Employees from 10 different companies in the Northwest Suburbs showed their mettle at the sixth annual Corporate Challenge, sponsored by officials with the Meadow Club in Rolling Meadows.
Fittingly, proceeds from the event were earmarked for another group of athletes, Special Olympians who compete in events administered by the Rolling Meadows-based Northwest Suburban Special Olympics.
Some of those special athletes turned out to volunteer at the event and meet their supporters, including Tracy Fisher of Buffalo Grove and John Terrelli of Arlington Heights.
"We chose Special Olympics in part because we're a sports facility," said Bob Breckenridge, tennis director at the Meadow Club. "But the son of one of our members, Howard Maybloom of Hoffman Estates, competes in Special Olympics."
In all nearly 200 competitors gathered Aug. 14 at the sports complex for the festive competition. They broke into 14 different teams - the Hartford Computer Group of Inverness, returned this year with five different teams. …
