Froehlich Disputes Totten's Claim of Ryan Endorsement

Schaumburg Township GOP Committeeman candidate Paul Froehlich is accusing incumbent Don Totten of lying about his endorsements in a "desperate" attempt to hold on to that office.
The latest flap over Totten's questionable endorsements in the race for Republican Organization of Schaumburg Township revolves around his claim this week that he had been endorsed by Secretary of State George Ryan. Ryan spokesman Dave Urbanek said Friday that, though Ryan and Totten are longtime friends, Ryan was not endorsing any candidates in the primary election township committeemen races.
"It appears Mr. Totten has an obvious pattern of claiming false endorsements," Froehlich said in a statement Friday. "It appears Mr. Totten is very desperate to hang on to his job."
Urbanek did not dispute Ryan said complimentary things to Totten about his running of the Schaumburg Township party organization. Totten has held the committeeman's post for 32 years.
Totten said Friday Ryan gave him his endorsement in a telephone conversation Thursday and agreed to allow Totten to quote him in a press release sent to the media later that day.
