The newly hired Childs Realty Group of Arlington Heights plans to re-merchandise the troubled Fox River Plaza Shopping Center in Elgin.
Childs Realty signed on as exclusive lease broker for the 315,577-square-foot shopping center owned by the Simon Group of Indianapolis.
Located on 31.25 acres at the intersection of Route 31 and the Northwest Tollway, the center is anchored by Builder's Square, Service Merchandise and Venture. But several retailers have pulled out in the last year.
The Fox River Plaza is currently 82 percent occupied, with two big spaces vacant, said Jamie P. Childs, president of Childs Realty. One of the available units is 22,500 square feet, the other is 15,750 square feet. Other open spaces range in size from 1,500 to 9,000 square feet.
Childs Realty plans to fill the center with a mix of traditional retailers, outlet and discount shops, and "ma and pa" entrepreneurs.
Childs Realty Group represents 48 retail shopping centers in Chicago and surrounding counties.
