Electronic Mail System Connects Buffalo Grove, Residents

It's like having a 24-hour drive-up service window.
The days of waiting for regular business hours to ask an official a question or complain about a problem is over for Buffalo Grove residents because this can now be done through electronic mail.
Since the system began operating last week, residents have sent messages to trustees and have inquired with village hall about such things as stop lights to road construction - without leaving their home.
"If someone gets home from work after hours ... they can shoot off a question," said Robert Giddens, village director of management information systems. "This won't stop them from writing or calling, but this is another vehicle for communication."
General questions can be sent to BGROVEIL@MAIL.VBG.ORG and village officials can be contacted by inserting before the "@" sign the first letter of their first name and the first seven letters of their last name. For instance, Village President Sidney H. Mathias can be reached at SMATHIAS@MAIL.VBG.ORG.
The system also enables trustees to access their messages at all hours and from such places as their home. …
