Bicycling and horseback riding enthusiasts visiting Deer Grove Forest Preserve near Palatine will have to adhere to some new trail policies designed to protect the ecosystem.
The new guidelines have been established because the forest preserve at Quentin and Dundee roads has been severely damaged by people veering off marked trails, Cook County Forest Preserve District officials said.
The new system guides mountain bikers and horseback riders toward designated paved and unpaved trails that are marked with gray signs.
Orange signs mark trails that should not be used by bikers and equestrians.
