Man Injured in Accident Gets Help from Friends

Del Re, Sandra, Daily Herald (Arlington Heights, IL)

Byline: Sandra Del Re Daily Herald Staff Writer

When Eric Morgan was severely injured in a motorcyle accident last month, he needed brain surgery.

But he had no health insurance to pay for the expensive procedure.

So out of kindness and concern, friends of the 32-year-old Palatine man have started a fund to help pay his medical bills, which are in excess of $100,000.

"He's really overwhelmed by the injury and having to change careers and having no money," said Melissa S. Acheson, Morgan's girlfriend. "He's going to be out of work for months."

So far, friends have raised $1,000. Donations can be sent to The Eric Morgan Trust, c/o Willow Creek Community Church, 67 E. Algonquin Road, South Barrington IL 60010.

A landscape arborist, Morgan was investigating the possibility of purchasing medical insurance when the April 22 accident occurred, Acheson said.

He was not wearing a helmet when a van hit his motorcycle at the intersection of Route 14 and Sterling Road in Palatine, police said.
