School Technology Center Earns State Award

The Elk Grove High School Center for Applied Technology recently received an award for excellence from the Illinois Technology Education Association.
The association selects one school in each state for this award based on the school's use of technology, articulation with business and industry, application of academics, career awareness and tech prep orientation.
The award was received at the association's national conference in Phoenix last month. The school's center also received the Connections 2000 award and was recognized by the North Cook Educational Service Center for exemplary use of technology.
The center first opened in the fall of 1994 and was derived from Northwest Suburban High School District 214's first technology center which opened in 1990 at Wheeling High School.
The purpose of the center is to help students becoming technology literate and apply what they learn in class to real-life.
"The purpose is to expose students to all kinds of issues, technology and job applications," says teacher Jim MacDonald.
