Contemporary Photograph Shine at AIPAD Photography Show

Silberman, Vanessa, Art Business News

NEW YORK--From Feb. 16 to 18, the AIPAD Photography Show 2001 returned to the New York Hilton Hotel for a three-day run. Touted as the world's largest art fair devoted to vintage and contemporary fine art photography, the show featured 93 international exhibitors and attracted an exciting crowd of collectors, dealers and the general public. Sponsored by the Association of International Photography Art Dealers, this year's show, according to Kathleen Ewing, executive director of AIPAD, grew by 10 percent over last year and once again proved to be an ideal meeting spot to buy and sell fine art photography.

Dealer Deborah Bell of New York felt this year's show was very productive. "There were many serious collectors there, including ones I had never met before, so I felt the show was very promising," she said.

Howard Greenberg of Gallery 292 in New York, who has been exhibiting at the AIPAD show since the early `80s, added, "We had a very successful week ... Every minute I was at the show, I found myself in my booth dealing with more than one person ... It was really hopping."

A noticeable trend at this year's show was the stronger presence of contemporary photographs.
