National Language Month
THE nation, particularly the formal educational institutions from grade school to college, take the lead, with support from the Department of Education, Culture and Sports (DECS) and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), in commemorating National Language Month (Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa). The celebration enables our educators, scholars, linguists and other proponents of the use of the language to reflect on the extent of utilization and intellectualization of our continually expanding and dynamic national language Filipino.
With students and faculty on all levels enjoined to participate in the activities slated, including poetry readings, essay contests, and stage plays, the DECS announced that the theme for the first week of the celebration would be Ang Wikang Pilipino: Instrumento sa Mabisa at Malayang Pamamahayag (The Filipino Language: Instrument in Effective and Free Communication).
