Camera to Clamp on Speeding Motorists

Byline: Tryst Williams

A NEW crackdown by the Vale of Glamorgan coucnil could put the brakes on speeding drivers throughout the county.

The authority has bought a fixed speed camera, which will be used at five sites throughout the area - four in Barry and one in Llantwit Major.

A council spokesman said: "We are determined to play a positive role in cutting road traffic accidents and casualties, and reducing traffic speeds and related accidents will improve the quality of life for residents and visitors.

"Hopefully, this project will continue the trend to improve road safety and the message for motorists is, unless they want to face a hefty fine, not to travel over the speed limit in any part of the Vale."

The camera will initially be used at the following locations:

Port Road West, Barry.

Port Road East, Barry.

Colcot Road, Barry.

Skomer Road, Barry.

Boverton Road, Llantwit Major.

And although buying and installing the camera will cost the council pounds 110,000, it is confident the money will be recovered through the revenue from fines.
