It was our third meeting and I couldn't wait. I'd interviewed Jackie Chan before, first for Shanghai Noon, more recently for Rush Hour 2, and this time I was lucky enough to fly to Dublin to meet him on the set of his new movie, Highbinders.
Every time I've met Jackie, he's been friendlier than the last. A true gent, he's always made me feel welcome and this time he walked over and gave me an impromptu kiss and cuddle.
I was in Ireland to talk to him about My Story, My Stunts, a brilliant bumper double-pack DVD release which is basically Jackie's story in his own words. It covers his life from his humble beginnings - "I was a very naughty boy, I gave my parents a lot of trouble" - to his tough training at the Peking Opera School before becoming proficient in almost every martial art there is.
If you've ever wanted to know what makes unarguably the world's greatest action star fling himself off moving buses, on to rooftops or through windows, the answer's in this DVD.
No stuntman in his care has ever been seriously injured or killed, though Jackie has been blacklisted by every insurance company in Asia.
As he opens his heart, his only melancholy moment is when he admits that his personal life has suffered.
"I have family, but they're just not always together," he says wistfully. "But they understand. I'm good for some things bad for others. I feel sorry, but what can I do?"
