State Universities, Colleges Gird for Info-Tech Curriculum

One hundred eight state universities and colleges (SUCs) as well as public elementary and secondary schools nationwide are gearing up for the use of information and communication technology (ICT) in their curriculum.

This was learned from the Department of Education (DepEd) and Commission on Higher Education (CHED) as they received a report from Net Curricula, Inc. chairman Francisco J. Colayco after the ICT4SCHOOLS Congress sponsored by Curricula attended by government-schools from Luzon and Metro Manila.

Colayco said the congress was an annual event showcasing the current schoolyear's most impressive crop of curriculum projects developed by teachers and students using information and communications technology (ICT). These were presented in their classrooms to create innovative learning opportunities on all range of topics, from science to music, Filipino to values education.

He said that the presence of government schools signified that they were interested to integrate ICT in their curriculum. These schools included Cagayan State University in Caritan, Tuguegarao; Mariano Marcos State University in Batac, Ilocos Norte; University of the Philippines (UP)-Diliman; Karuhatan National High School, Parada Elementary School and Valenzuela National High School in Valenzuela City; and Rizal Technological University in Mandaluyong City.
