Lions Club Holding Screenings for Diabetes Risk Factors

Recent statistics compiled by the Center for Disease Control show that 17 million people in the United States have one form or another of diabetes.
The problem is, however, almost 6 million people of that group have yet to be diagnosed.
Hoping to reduce that number, the Palatine Lions Club will host free diabetes screenings between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. April 23 at the Dominick's Finer Foods, 615 E. Dundee Road, Palatine.
When you have diabetes, your body either doesn't make enough insulin or can't use its own insulin as well as it should. This causes sugars to build up in your blood, according to the CDC.
The seventh leading cause of death in the United States, diabetes can cause serious health complications including heart disease, blindness, kidney failure and lower-extremity amputations.
Jan Dubell, president of the Palatine Lion's Club, said the Lions are dedicated to helping the sight and hearing impaired. …
