SCOTLAND new boy Ben Hinshelwood could ply his trade north of the border next season if he fails to win promotion to the English Premiership with current club Worcester.
The Australian-born utility back, who made his first start in the 36-22 Test win over the Fijians on Sunday, has a get-out clause in his Worcester contract which allows him to leave if they don't go up.
And that could start a potential bidding war amongst Scotland's three pro clubs if the young star chooses to head north.
Hinshelwood, the son of former Scotland and Lions winger Sandy, was a summer target for Edinburgh after making his Scotland debut as a sub against Canada.
However, negotiations to bring the 25-year-old to the capital stalled and he signed a new two-year deal with the English National League One side who currently sit in second place.
But Hinshelwood, who can play at either centre or full-back, hinted he would be happy to discuss a move north if his side miss out on a Premiership place.
He said: "Playing in Scotland could be a definite option. I'm in the first year of a two-year contract with Worcester but it depends on promotion.
"If we don't go up this season I could be a free agent."
After being eased into Ian McGeechan's team via the summer tour, Hinshelwood admitted he was relieved to get his big chance in the autumn series.
Substitute appearances against Romania and South Africa were followed by a starting place for the Fiji game, and now he is eager for more action.
He said: "The North America tour played a big part of my development. It helped me to get to know the players, which is a big part of stepping up to international rugby, and it was also a chance to play in front of the coaches - show them what I could do.
