Football: Albion Woe as Meg Gives 'Em Wat for; Watford 1 West Brom 0

Byline: Kevin MOSELEY

GARY MEGSON was scathing about his West Brom team as they were dumped out of the FA Cup by First Division Watford.

They face the rest of the season with only a struggle for Premiership survival after Icelandic striker Heidar Helguson's 10th goal of the season nine minutes from the end clinched a fifth-round spot.

But for a brilliant 55th minute penalty save by Russell Hoult from Neil Cox, Albion would have been waving goodbye earlier.

Megson blasted them in the dressing room and then spoke out later. "I can have no complaints. We were booed off by supporters 13 months ago against Barnsley and today that was as bad.

"My players have been saying they want better money and bonuses in July but they abdicated their responsibilities today. It was not acceptable."

Watford manager Ray Lewington was delighted by his club which early in the season was fighting for its very survival with awesome debts.

"It went beyond our expectations today," said Lewington who has steered the team to within one point of the play-offs.

Helguson's goal, superbly executed, came as a result of a clever through-ball from England U-21 international Jermaine Pennant.
