IF YOU were trying to dream up the perfect recipe for success for an international luxury goods brand, lace-up rubber leggings, pantomime frilled jackets and lashings of circus-style makeup would not be the first things to come to mind. How wrong could you be?

Christian Dior, in the hands of maverick British designer John Galliano, whose collection in Paris had all the above and much more, is expected to announce u24 million profits this week. No mean feat when you consider that most of the biggest names in fashion are having to tighten their belts this season.

At the most expensive end of the fashion pyramid, a completely over-the-top catwalk presentation seems to be the winning strategy to shift obscene amounts of money-spinning accessories, perfume and beauty products.

And you don't get more overthetop than the latest offering from Galliano.

Models stormed the catwalk in second skin rubber, micro short mini-dresses, Japanese tattoo prints and jackets with collars that looked like they had been salvaged from old cushions and clutching those all-important new bags.
