BBC Denied Interview as RFU Exploit Loophole in Contract; in Short

RUGBY: BBC plans to interview an England player on the Twickenham pitch after the final whistle against Italy on Sunday have been blocked, writes Chris Jones.

The Rugby Football Union agreed to let Will Greenwood (above) speak after the win over France and his forthright comments hit the headlines. As a result, no pitch interview took place after the victory in Cardiff against Wales.

Standard Sport understands the BBC informed Twickenham chiefs that the new u70million contract to screen the Six Nations included a paragraph covering this situation. However, the RFU discovered this was not the case and that, although a request could be made, it didn't have to be agreed.
