Candidate Judy Baker, running in the Democratic primary for the congressional Ninth District, proposed several weeks ago treating veterans returning home from Iraq and Afghanistan in facilities outside the Veterans Administration system when advisable.
This is a perfectly reasonable idea, reflecting what I've posed here several times in years past with an even broader sweep. Why not completely integrate service to veterans' into the larger national health care system? Perhaps a brand new addition of facilities was warranted when the VA system first was developed to handle unprecedented numbers of World War I personnel, but now it defies logic to think a separate system ā¦
