"IF IT does not fit, you must acquit" will surely be Johnnie Cochran's epitaph. The "it" referred to the bloody glove that was supposed to be the clinching piece of evidence against O.J. Simpson, the former gridiron football star, accused of the murder of his wife Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman. The case seemed open and shut. But the glove, it transpired, did not fit. Cochran secured his client's acquittal - and in the process made himself the most famous lawyer in America.
Despite all the hype, the 1994-95 OJ trial was not quite the "Trial of the Century" (that distinction, in terms of sensation, media circus, and subsequent literature generated, still belongs ā¦
