After a week of almost surreal mishap and disillusionment in the national game there is at last something at which to rejoice at the Millennium Stadium today. It is the brave and refreshing sight of a youngish English manager offering not his coaching badges, his training cone credibility if you like, but his team, one that is not only largely homegrown, relatively low cost, but has also had enough boldness injected into its bones seriously to challenge Liverpool in today's FA Cup final.
Another bonus is that coming to praise Alan Pardew and his West Ham United is not to join automatically the wearisome, even disgraceful chauvinistic and closed-shop bleatings of the ā¦
