Tears flooded the eyes of Laura Sandstedt as she spoke to the Columbia Board of Education finance committee yesterday afternoon.
Sandstedt, president of the Columbia Public Schools Employee Organization and a teacher at Ridgeway Elementary School, was responding to a proposed contract addendum from the Columbia Missouri National Education Association. The addendum would force the school district to use excess money in certain funds to improve teacher salaries.
Sandstedt's eyes started to well as she talked about protecting school staff from cutbacks. She said rumors among school district support staff suggest some positions would be cut to give teachers pay ā¦
