Tom Aikens' A-Z of Food

Aiken, Tom, The Evening Standard (London, England)

The Chelsea chef AIS FOR ALEXANDER AND KNIGHT IIS FOR I CAMISA SON JIS FOR JAGO'S OF CHELSEA Great local fish shop in Barnes I buy line-caught sea bass there.

18 Barnes High Street, SW13 (020 8876 1297).

BIS FOR BOROUGH MARKET The obvious one, but still the best (right). It may have been made famous by Jamie [Oliver] but I was going there when he was still in a pushchair.

8 Southwark Street, SE1 (020 7407 1002).

CIS FOR CHEESE One of the best shops in London is La Fromagerie (below).

It's run by Patricia Michelson and I love her Epoisse.

2-4 Moxon Street, W1 (020 7935 0341) and 30 Highbury Park, N5 (020 7359 7440).

DIS FOR DAYLESFORD ORGANIC CAFE Housed in Bamford Sons in Sloane Square, it serves the best Cheddar and chutney sandwich south of the M25.

Well, the secret chutney recipe is my own.

31 Sloane Square, SW1 (020 7935 0341).

D IS ALSO FOR DE GUSTIBUS A cafe and pastry shop great for their organic wheat-free range. The lemon and poppy seed and blueberry cakes are a sell-out.

53 Blandford Street, W1 (020 7486 6608).

EIS FOR THE EBURY The restaurant and bar (below) for the cool Pimlico crowd, owned by the multitalented Tom Etridge.

Their Moscow Mules are a big draw.

11 Pimlico Road, SW1 (020 7730 6784).

FIS FOR FISHMONGERS The Chelsea Fishmonger, Rex Goldsmith's shop on Chelsea Green.

It's a great local shop to have, with two lovely fishmongers (Rex and Harrison) who know their trade inside out.

10 Cale Street, SW3 (020 7589 9432).

GIS FOR GINGER PIG A favourite butcher (right) among the people of Marylebone, and mine, too. I stock up on their sausages and organic free-range pork.

8-10 Moxon Street, W1 (020 7935 7788).

HIS FOR HERE A multifunctional organic deli and vitamin shop in Chelsea Farmers' Market. Great for just grazing and browsing.

125 Sydney Street, SW3 (020 7351 4321).

The Soho store on Old Compton Street is an amazing Italian old- school delicatessen, with something for everyone.

61 Old Compton Street, W1 (020 7437 7610).

I may be biased about Elystan Street (my restaurant, Tom Aikens, is there) but Jago's is a great local butcher for all the residents of the area.

9 Elystan Street, SW3 (020 7589 5531).

KIS FOR KELLY'S ORGANIC FOODS It's a very sweet shop that serves all your vital store-cupboard ingredients and much more their homemade quiches and pasta salads are delicious.

46 Northcote Road, SW11 (020 7207 3967).

LIS FOR LIDGATES There is not really anything that I can say about this butcher's apart from the fact that it is just a beautiful shop to go and get your weekend shopping from. Great sausages and aged meat.

110 Holland Park Avenue, W11 (020 7727 8243).
