-- Allegheny Group of the Sierra Club will lead a six-mile hike through the North Woods area of Forbes State Forest on May 14. Meet at McDonald's on Route 31 in Donegal at 1:30 p.m. Call Diane Neely at 724-459-3012.

-- Powdermill's Avian Research Center in Rector will be the site of a bird-banding hike from 8 a.m. to noon Sunday. Participants will get a bird-banding demonstration, visit the nature center to check out the exhibits, have a snack, then head into the woods to look for birds. Cost is $12 for Venture Outdoors members, $18 for other adults and $10 for kids. Call 412-255-0564.
