Connellsville to Boost Environmental Efforts

Connellsville City Council is taking steps to increase the city's environmental sustainability and to save money in the process.
At the Wednesday regular meeting, Councilman Tom Karpiak, chairman of public works, asked for people to send letters of interest in a new volunteer position: sustainability coordinator.
The coordinator will oversee implementing a citywide strategy to:
-- Promote sustainable and green practices; identify effective methods and policy to encourage city-owned buildings to achieve Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification.
-- Identify effective methods and policies to increase the number and success of businesses involved in green enterprises.
-- Work with community groups interested in integrating green building design principles.
-- Promote Connellsville's green movement locally, statewide and nationally.
-- Identify effective methods and policies to increase use of energy-efficient products and engineering in housing development and home improvements.
-- Help develop educational materials for coordinators and homeowners; track and monitor green efforts.
