Cambra's Firm to Focus on Marketing of Sports

Ben Cambra, 35, fourth employee hired at Remington Park when the racetrack was under construction, has resigned as marketing director to start his own sports marketing business.

Cambra plans to open offices in Oklahoma City and San Diego, Calif.

Cambra will remain at Remington Park through Jan. 21.

Keith Chamblin, director of media relations at Remington Park since 1988, has been named director of marketing effective Jan. 24. Chamblin will continue to serve as director of media relations. He also will oversee Remington Park's advertising efforts, said David Vance, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Remington Park, and vice president of racing for the DeBartolo Corp.

"I think anyone close to Remington Park would agree that Keith Chamblin has earned this opportunity," Vance said.

"He is tremendously talented, has an uncommon work ethic, and I personally respect his judgment and instincts. He leads by example. Add to that the fact that he fully understands the value of teamwork and it is clear why he has been asked to take on these additional duties," Vance said.

Cambra started work at Remington Park Oct. 26, 1987, while the track facility was still under construction, he said.

"The track was just beams and pipes at that point.

"It's been a privilege working a Remington Park and serving under David Vance," Cambra said. "Remington Park has one of the most progressive racing operations in the world, and I'm looking forward to continuing my association with Remington Park and DeBartolo Racing. I am also looking forward to working on other exciting marketing opportunities within racing," Cambra said.

Cambra said that through his new firm, to be known as Ben Cambra Marketing, he plans to work on horse race marketing programs for tracks, consulting, promotions, special events and corporate sponsorship programs.

"I have long held that Ben Cambra has one of the best marketing minds in racing," Vance said.

"That opinion has not changed. He's done an outstanding job for Remington Park and I wish he and his family the very best," Vance said.

Cambra said he expects to set up an office with a staff in Oklahoma City. He will move his wife and two small sons to California where their families are located, he said.

He plans to continue working on community projects with which he has become involved in Oklahoma City.

One of those projects will become a part of the work of his new business. It is development of a collector's card set of pictures of Oklahoma City policemen similar to collector sets of athletes to be marketed to children, he said.

Another project on which he is working is the national AAU boys' basketball tournament scheduled July 2-9 in Oklahoma City, Cambra said.

"I am handling the marketing and corporate sponsorships for the national AAU boys 16 and under basketball tournament. …
