OIPA Starts Series of Seminars in OKC

The Oklahoma Independent Petroleum Association will kick off a series of oil and gas environmental seminars Wednesday at Metro Tech in Oklahoma City.

The day-long seminars will provide compliance overview of federal environmental regulations relating to oil and gas exploration and production activities, Oklahoma Corporation Commission rule updates and status reports on federal and state legislation impacting future environmental regulation.

"We try to do these seminars at least every other year because of the complexity of regulations at the state and federal level," said Mickey Thompson, executive vice president of the association.

The seminars were last offered in the fall of 1992, according to Thompson.

The environmental release portion of the seminars, which are scheduled from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., will include discussion about investigating the release and using the risk assessment process to develop alternate cleanup levels. This portion of the seminar will be presented by Patrick L. Franks, principal of Deer in Water Environmental Management Services Inc., in Norman. Franks has more than 20 years experience in the environmental engineering field.
