Juanita M. Skillman, CRM, FAI

For the past two years, Juanita Skillman has held the position of RIM Manager for Fremont Comp. Before assignment to that post, she was RIM Administrator for American Honda Motor Company for over 12 years, a position she accepted after serving as the Records Management Supervisor for Denny's, Inc. and Records Analyst for DAON, Inc. Previous experience included Vision House Publishers and Silver City Consolidated Schools, where she taught high school.

The RIM areas in which Skillman has developed specific experience include the following:

Records policy and procedure development

Records inventory

Records retention schedules

Legal research

Active records systems

Inactive records systems

Record center management

Vital records

Forms management

Mail room management

Recycling

Document imaging

Records management software

In addition to this wide range of RIM experience, Skillman brings to her candidacy recognized talents as a presenter and trainer. She speaks frequently before business organizations and professional associations as well as before ARMA chapters and groups. She has written articles for the Information Management Journal, Records Management Quarterly, and Records and Retrieval Report. She was a contributing author to The Information Manager's Toolkit. In 1991 she became Fellow No. 10 in the ARMA International Company of Fellows.

Besides ARMA, other professional and personal development associations Skillman has contributed to are Toastmasters International and AIIM. For Toastmasters, she has served as Division Governor and District Secretary and has held all offices at the club level. For AIIM, she has served as local chapter officer.

Juanita Skillman holds Master of Arts and Bachelor of Arts degrees from Western New Mexico University. She has pursued additional graduate studies at California State University, Sacramento. She earned her CRM in 1986 and was re-certified in 1994 and 1998.

Position Statement 1. What key strengths or skills do you possess that will make you an effective member of the Board of Directors?

It is an exciting time to be a member of ARMA and a part of the Records and Information Management profession. I have much to offer the members of ARMA International and am proud to declare myself as a candidate for Treasurer, for a second two-year term beginning in July 2000.

Having served as Treasurer of ARMA International for the last year, I am privy to, and part of, the changes currently underway for the association and at headquarters. I worked with the Board of Directors and Strategic Planning Committee to help structure ARMA International to be responsive to the membership and the profession of Records and Information Management in the new millennium. I have chaired the Financial Planning Committee through difficult times this past year, dealing with two years of deficit, non-standard accounting practices and changes in headquarters staff and resources. I also serve as chair of the Policy and Procedures Committee that has worked with headquarters staff to review and update the AL's (Association Letters) which are the Policy and Procedures Guidelines for the Association. …
