We all have a friend like Laurie Notaro. She is the friend who, even if a situation involves dentist drills or rabid dogs, can always find humour--and turn a potentially disastrous event into a great adventure.

Notaro's book, The Idiot Girls' Action-Adventure Club, chronicles some of her own real-life escapades. Notaro is a humour columnist who writes for the Arizona Republic newspaper and her book is a collection of more than three dozen of her articles. Through slice-of-only-her-life articles, Notaro covers all the bases: grocery shopping with her grandfather, disastrous childhood camping trips, high school reunions, being stood up, dental emergencies and dozens of other situations loaded with comedic possibilities.

Some of the tales are definitely more chuckle-inducing than others: her rules for using public bathrooms (where her sage advice includes: "Hear Me Unzip and Button Your Lip," "Don't Leave Your Mark, Just Sit Down and Park") her experiences bra shopping and her account of being the noisy upstairs neighbour, are all clever and comical.
