Internet Service Providers Form Strategic Alliances
Two recently released but unrelated announcements reveal the strengthening of strategic relationships between an Internet service provider and an Internet technology company.
American Internet and UUNET Technologies
American Internet Corp., a Bedford, Massachusetts-based company that focuses on building industrial-strength Internet servers, has announced an agreement with UUNET designed to simplify access to the Internet. WNET Technologies Inc. headquartered in Fairfax, Virginia, is a leading Internet service provider for businesses.
Organizations that purchase American Internet's SiteBuilder Web server under the "Get Connected" program, which includes Internet access from UUNET, can realize savings of up to 50 percent on installation.
SiteBuilder, which runs on Novell NetWare 3.11, 3.12, and 4.1, is a high performance, easy-to-use, Web server solution. The SiteBuilder NetWare Loadable Module (NLM) installs in minutes, allowing organizations to create, deploy, and manage Web servers while maintaining their NetWare environments. SiteBuilder utilizes a company's investment in NetWare systems expertise, allowing SiteBuilder Web servers to be propagated throughout an organization and installed on multiple, departmental NetWare servers. Thus the combination of SiteBuilder with UUNET access allows an organization to take advantage of both the Internet and the Intranet.
"We see the Get Connected program as an ideal way to reach the 45 million NetWare users who have had no easy way to participate on the Internet," said Dave Foster, UUNET's vice president of Business Development. "By coupling the power of the SiteBuilder Web server with an easy way to access the Internet, American Internet can offer NetWare users a complete solution."
According to Throop Wilder, president of American Internet, "NetWare valueadded resellers now have an attractive way to get their customers up and running immediately without moving them to new operating environments. American Internet will continue to offer new services that allow organizations to take advantage of the growing Internet opportunities for their businesses." The Get Connected program will be offered by American Internet on an ongoing basis.
Founded in 1995, American Internet supplies high performance, highly scalable Internet server software for commercial use in high traffic, rapid response environments. The company's first product, SiteBuilder, is a Web server solution that allows Novell NetWare environments to create powerful Web sites in just minutes.
