through the secretariat, carry out special tasks assigned to them by the governing board. In addition, the governing board may appoint special groups to advise the board on policy and activities of the Consortium. Financial support for the Consortium is provided by subventions from members and solicited donations from national and international organizations.

Consortium activities are diversified in all areas of medical education, and to date have included organizing seminars on such subjects as evaluation methods, national board examination for undergraduates, information technology in medicine and allied health sciences and conducting workshops on leadership and management skills for senior personnel and administrators of the member school. The Consortium has accepted the responsibilities to plan and organize the Sixth National Medical Education Conference scheduled in November 1993. It is expected that preparation of doctors in the next decade will be the central theme, and topics for discussion will include selection of medical students, holistic approach of the curriculum, community-based and problem based learning, self- study, evaluation of student performance, program evaluation, continuing education, health research, specialization versus general practice, demand and supply of the physicians, and health resource management.
