A Note on the Citation of Sources
The reader will note the following conventions: sections of the California Penal Code are cited by section number only; other statutory
provisions are cited more fully. Casefiles from the records of the
Superior Court of Alameda County are cited with defendant's last
name, case number, and the year the case was filed -- for example:
Jones, no. 1567, 1894.
