About the Editor and Contributors

BERNARD M. BASS is Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Management and Director of the Center for Leadership Studies, School of Management, State University of New York at Binghamton. He has published over four hundred articles and twenty-three books. Bass is the founding editor of Leadership Quarterly and coauthor of Bass and Stogdill's Handbook of Leadership. In 1994 he received the Distinguished Scientific Contributions Award of the Society for Industrial & Organizational Psychology.

JAMES MACGREGOR BURNS is a Senior Scholar at the Academy of Leadership at the University of Maryland, College Park. He has also served as Visiting Scholar at the Jepson School of Leadership Studies, University of Richmond, and as professor of political science at Williams College. He is the author of Leadership and a number of political biographies, including Roosevelt: The Lion and the Fox, which was awarded a Pulitzer Prize.

JOANNE B. CIULLA is the Coston Family Chair in Leadership and Ethics at the Jepson School of Leadership Studies, University of Richmond. She has held academic appointments at the Harvard Business
